In this Tuesday, March 19, 2013 photo, the board at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York displays admission fees, which are recommended but not mandatory. Many visitors to the museum, especially foreign tourists, don?t realize that the fees listed on the sign are merely suggestions. Confusion over what?s required to enter the Met, which draws more than 6 million visitors a year, is at the heart of a class-action lawsuit this month accusing it of an illegal ?scheme? to defraud the public into believing the fees are required. (AP Photo/Mary Altaffer)

(AP) ? A lawyer is suing New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art, claiming the institution is purposely misleading people about how much they have to pay to get in.

Like other museums in the city, the Met has what it calls a recommended admissions charge. It's $25 for adults.

But people don't actually have to pay that much to get in if they don't like. They can legally enter the museum for a donation as low as one penny.

The lawsuit says the museum fails to make this clear to visitors. It says the signs and the cashiers make people think they must pay the full $25.

Met spokesman Harold Holzer denies any deception was in place. He called the lawsuit a "nuisance."

European Union chief spurring negotiations on Cyprus deal

BRUSSELS (AP) ? A top European official is leading a high-level meeting Sunday afternoon in a last-ditch effort to help Cyprus come up with a plan necessary for a 10 billion euro bailout loan that would save it from bankruptcy.

The day of talks could prove critical ? not only for the future of the small island country, but also for the 17-nation eurozone. If Cyprus or its banks were to collapse, officials fear that a lack of confidence could spread to other countries that use the euro, triggering higher borrowing costs or capital flight from those countries.

Cyprus is racing to meet a Monday deadline to come up with a plan to raise 5.8 billion euros ($7.5 billion) in order to get the bailout from the other European countries that use the single currency, as well as from the IMF.

Cyprus has "to fulfill a difficult mission to save the Cypriot economy and avert a disorderly default threatening the economy if there is no final deal for the loan agreement," government spokesman Christos Sylianides said in a written statement.

Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and Finance Minister Michalis Sarris were flying to Brussels, Sylianides said. Anastasiades was to be in constant contact throughout the negotiations in Brussels with party leaders who would be in the presidential mansion in Nicosia, he said.

An EU spokesman said European Council President Herman Van Rompuy would lead the meeting, with Anastasiades and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso attending. The Council is the gathering of 27 EU heads of state and government; the Commission is the EU's executive arm.

Van Rompuy's role will not be to reach a final agreement, but to facilitate efforts to find a solution, spokesman Preben Aamann said. Any new proposal would have to be approved Sunday evening by the Eurogroup, the gathering of finance ministers from the 17 EU countries that use the euro currency.

The IMF, European Central Bank and European Commission will then determine whether any plan put forward by Cyprus meets the requirement that Cyprus' debt, including any new bailout loan, be sustainable over the long run.

To avoid bankruptcy or the collapse of its banking system, Cyprus needs significantly more than the 10 billion euros the international creditors are willing to lend it. For that reason, the country must somehow raise ? and not through borrowing ? the additional money.

The original plan, agreed to in marathon negotiations, called for a one-time "levy" on all bank depositors in Cypriot banks. The proposal ignited fierce anger among Cypriots and failed to garner a single vote in the Cypriot Parliament.

German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble underlined that time was of the essence. The European Central Bank says it will stop providing emergency funding to Cyprus' banks after Monday if no new plan is in place.

"Cyprus will go down a tough path ? either way. But that's not the consequence of European stubbornness but of a business model that no longer works," he said.

Following the Van Rompuy meeting, Anastasiades will meet with Christine Lagarde, the managing director of the International Monetary Fund, and Mario Draghi, president of the European Central Bank, Cypriot spokesman Nikos Christodoulides said.

Year 9 Options ? Computer Sciece Or Food Technology? Help ...

I have been dreading making these choices and now it has come to the point where I am deciding between two (also I would like to be a paramedic when I am older). These are the options I have already chosen:
Triple Science
History (with geography as a reserve) - We have to take a humanities or a language
Then we have a big list with all the other subjects and here I have become stuck between Computer Science and Food Technology
We have to take a basic ICT course but we can also take Computer Science which is a different qualification, this is what the course would include:
The computer systems and programming unit will teach you the theory about a wide range of issues such as hard ware and software etc
The practical investigation. You will look at computing in more depth and carry out a practical investigation into a computing issue
The programming project is something to do with coding and computer language.
^ I have no idea what this means? But my older sibling is good with computers and said he would help me but he got an A* when he did ICT at GCSE and I feel (as it would be the same teacher teaching me who taught my sibling) that there would be a lot of pressure for me to do well.
Then Food Technology is pretty self explanatory
So have any of you got experience of these at GCSE level are they boring etc?
Also because I really only need Triple Science to study science at A level if I happened to get a bad grade on either Food tech or Computer science (which ever I do take) would this really matter and affect my chances of becoming a paramedic?
Thanks in advance :)

After violence, Egypt groups blame each other

CAIRO (AP) ? Egypt's powerful Muslim Brotherhood says it holds the opposition and "thugs" responsible for the most violent clashes yet outside the Islamist group's headquarters in Cairo.

Meanwhile liberal opposition groups say the president, who hails from the Islamist group, is responsible because his government has failed to stabilize Egypt.

Fighting between opponents and supporters of the Brotherhood on Friday wounded around 175 people. The Brotherhood says six of its offices across the country were also attacked.

Muslim Brotherhood secretary-general Mahmoud Hussein told journalists Saturday that some media are falsely portraying what took place as a fight. He says what happened near the group's headquarters was an attack on Brotherhood members by "thugs."

Opposition leader Mohamed ElBaradei says the violence is due to the regime's failure to address root causes of anger.

UN to probe alleged chemical weapons use in Syria

UNITED NATIONS (AP) ? The United Nations will investigate the possible use of chemical weapons in Syria, which would amount to a crime against humanity, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced Thursday.

The investigation could be broader than the Syrian government's request for an independent probe of a purported chemical weapons attack on Tuesday. Ban said he was aware of allegations of other, similar attacks and hoped the probe would ultimately help secure Syria's chemical weapons stockpile.

The secretary-general said investigators would look into Syria's allegation that rebels carried out a chemical weapons attack on Khan al-Assal village in northern Aleppo province. The rebels blamed regime forces for the attack.

A senior U.S. official, meanwhile, said Thursday that the United States now has strong indications that no chemical weapons were used at all in the attack. Officials won't entirely rule out the possibility, but the official said additional intelligence-gathering has led the U.S. to believe more strongly that it was not a weaponized chemical attack. The official wasn't authorized to speak publicly about the matter and spoke on condition of anonymity.

U.N. spokesman Martin Nesirky said France and Britain sent a letter to Ban on Thursday asking for an investigation of three alleged chemical weapons attacks.

Ban said in a reply to the British and French that while the U.N. investigation will focus on the Syrian allegation, "we must take seriously other allegations that chemical weapons were used elsewhere in the country," Nesirky said.

The secretary-general asked the Syrians, British and French to provide additional information about the alleged attacks, an indication that he might order a separate probe at a later time of the British-French allegations.

Syria is widely believed to have a large stockpile of chemical weapons. The government has not confirmed it, saying only that it would never use chemical weapons against its own people.

"My announcement should serve as an unequivocal reminder that the use of chemical weapons is a crime against humanity," the secretary-general said. "The international community needs full assurance that chemical weapons stockpiles are verifiably safeguarded."

Western nations fear President Bashar Assad would use chemical weapons if he sees the two-year civil war turning against his government. But they are equally concerned that rebel forces, including some linked to al-Qaida, could get their hands on unguarded chemical weapons or the materials to make them.

Ban said he was aware of "other allegations of similar cases involving the reported use of chemical weapons," but did not make clear whether these would be part of the U.N. investigation.

In their letter to Ban, France and Britain raised allegations of chemical weapons use in two locations in Khan al-Assal and the village of Ataybah in the vicinity of Damascus on Tuesday, and in Homs on Dec. 23. The letter, obtained by The Associated Press, asked the U.N. chief to launch "an urgent investigation into all allegations as expeditiously as possible."

U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice said the United States "supports an investigation that pursues any and all credible allegations of the possible use of chemical weapons in Syria." She said the U.S. will continue to work closely with its partners to obtain further information on allegations of potential or actual use, and underscored the importance of launching the investigation swiftly.

"President Obama has been clear that the use or transfer of chemical weapons is totally unacceptable," she said. "If Bashar Al-Assad and those under his command make the mistake of using chemical weapons, or fail to meet their obligation to secure them, then there will be consequences. Those responsible will be held accountable."

Russia's U.N. Ambassador Vitaly Churkin, whose country is a close ally of Syria, welcomed Ban's announcement. On Wednesday, however, he had strongly opposed expanding the investigation beyond Tuesday's attack in Aleppo, accusing the West of "launching propaganda balloons" and engaging in delaying tactics.

Ban said his senior advisers are setting up an investigation in consultation with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the World Health Organization. He said issues to be decided include the overall mandate, the composition, and operational conditions, including security.

The investigation will start "as soon as practically possible," Ban said, but "will not happen overnight."

Nesirky said there are "technical reasons for being on the ground sooner rather than later." He said the OPCW and WHO have the necessary technical expertise.

The OPCW, which oversees the Chemical Weapons Convention, said in a statement that it was ready to work closely with the U.N. on establishing and conducting the mission.

"While allegations of this nature are not new to conflict situations, they are nonetheless serious, especially in the context of Syria which is not a state party to the Chemical Weapons Convention," the OPCW said. "This remains a matter of serious concern."

Ban said he would emphasize in a letter to the Syrian government that full cooperation from all parties and "unfettered access" would be essential to the investigation. The U.N. chief said he has spoken out repeatedly on the Syrian government's responsibility to secure any chemical weapons and has sent two letters to Assad "to remind him of this solemn duty."

"It is my hope that the mission would contribute to ensuring the safety and security of chemical weapons stockpiles in Syria," he said.

With more than 70,000 people killed and no end to the violence in sight, Ban said "the military solution in Syria is leading to the dissolution of Syria."

He called on the deeply divided region and international community to find unity and support efforts by the joint U.N.-Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi to help the Syrian people reach a political solution.
